SKILLET BURGER PIZZA

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Serves 4 to 6

If you are debating between having burger or pizza for lunch or dinner, your dilemma has been solved by marrying the two in this wonderful and easy to make dish. When I was making this burger pizza for the first time, I remember our son being intrigued by its pizza smell while the burger smell wasn’t too shy in striving to get some credit and win the day over its “other half”. Then, I still need to carry on with our son’ s first impression at first bite and his verdict: “It is unusual as you taste pizza and burger all at the same time, but it is delicious!”

1 tbsp/15 mL plus 2 tsp/10 mL olive oil 400 g lean ground beef 2 garlic cloves, minced 2 small onion, diced 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper 4 tbsp mayonnaise 4 tsp ketchup 4 tsp relish 350 g raw pizza dough at room temperature

1 tsp sesame seeds 2 large sour dill pickles, sliced 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 2 cups lettuce, shredded 10 cherry tomatoes, sliced in half

Preheat oven to 450°F/ 230°C.

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup and relish. Set aside. In a frying pan over medium heat, heat 1 tbsp/15 mL oil and add ground beef, garlic, onion, salt and pepper. Stirring often, cook for 7 to 8 minutes, or until juices run clear. Drain off any liquid and set aside. Oil a 30 cm cast iron skillet with remaining 2 tsp/10 mL of olive oil. Roll dough out to about a 35 cm round on a lightly floured surface and transfer to skillet. Flip dough over in skillet so that both sides of dough are oiled. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and gently press dough evenly in skillet so that it rises slightly up the sides of the pan. Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes. Remove partially baked pizza from oven. Spread with sauce, followed by an even layer of sliced pickle, ground beef and finish up with shredded cheddar. Bake for additional 20 to 25 minutes, or until pizza is cooked through and cheese is melted and slightly browned.

Top with shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes and serve immediately.

NOTE: You can buy raw fresh dough in bakery or pizza sections of supermarkets
