BRIE EN CROUTE

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Serves 4

Like most of the French dishes, this elegant starter looks wonderful and it tastes equally wonderful. It takes under 30 minutes to prepare it while everybody may think that you worked really hard in the kitchen.

Do not rush cutting it when it is still hot. Let it rest for about 10-15 minutes just to make sure that when you cut it, the brie is not going to be too runny. That makes it hard to serve it to your guests but quite tempting to just dive in for a casual gathering.

You can serve it with grapes and some crackers. Bon appetite!

1 sheet store-bought frozen butter puff pastry, thawed

15 g unsalted butter

½ cup walnuts/pecans

1 wheel Brie

2 tbs brown sugar

1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 375°F/190°C.

Place the brie in the center of the pastry on a cookie sheet.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter and sauté walnuts until golden brown, for about 5 minutes. Place the walnuts on top of the brie and sprinkle the brown sugar over the walnuts.

Gather up all edges of the pastry, pressing around the brie and making sure that you do not leave any uncovered spots. Gather pastry at the top and tie it up with a kitchen twine.

Brush the beaten egg all over the Brie.

Bake for 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
